Questions and Answers
- What are the differences between AAP and the reminder software, planners or other organizers?
-
- A regular organizer, such as Your Voice Reminder software, organizes your time schedule. AAP balances your life, your main goals or wellness dimensions.
- A regular planner, reminder or organizer can be positioned as a tactical and detailed time manager. AAP can be positioned as strategic time manager.
- A regular planner restricts your freedom, because prescribes to do so and so at a fixed time. Of course it is the self-restriction, self control. It could be useful. Nevertheless it is the serious restriction that may result in the stress. AAP says you that certain activity has the high priority but do not prescribe how and when you should pay attention to it. It gives you more freedom and the stress relief.
- AAP helps you control and balance your life while regular planner tends to control your life itself. May be this is the reason why bosses like the organizers... for their employees.
- Typical planner or organizer is for you and might be for your boss to control you. AAP is personally for you, for bosses themselves (can you delegate the strategy of your life to your secretary?), and those who would like to be her/his own boss.
- Let's consider a simple example. Suppose that you wrote into your planner that you should go with your children to zoo at 11 AM Sunday morning and told them about it. Then suppose something had happened at your work and you could not do that. This can produce rather stressful situation. As for Activity and Priority, it would simply showed that its time to pay attention to your children, and would had continued to show until you really spent some time for them. You could simply tell your children that you have prepared a surprise for them and took them to zoo at first possible occasion. Or if you could not go to zoo, just played with your children.
- Some planners do use priorities but usually it is the priorities, which you arbitrary set for numerous items in your time schedule. AAP manages not the priorities of your everyday routine tasks, but the priorities of the important activities, calculating them via sophisticated algorithm based on comparison of panned and really spent time for an activity.
- And finally, AAP usually takes much less time than typical planner or organizer. Why it is so? Well, because, first there are not so much important activities in our life: usually not more then 3 to 7. Activities are not everyday problems that are numerous. Activities are important part of our life like health, work and relations with people. Besides there are no need to remember the spent time exactly because of AAP tolerance to the errors.
- Would you suggest using AAP instead of the planner, reminder or organizer?
- No. Rather they are complementary, but we sincerely consider AAP to be more important because it is a strategic time planner. Vadim Motorine: Let me describe how I do it myself. Every morning I use AAP to find out, which of my activities have high priorities. Then I prepare my schedule for today in Your Voice Reminder. Therefore my reminder has few data and most of them are for today. Moreover, most of these data are to-do lists, to discuss with a person lists, and, well, sometimes, the shopping list. Because of AAP I rarely have to prepare the detailed schedule several days in advance and therefore do not spend time to rearrange it if something unexpected has happened. Moreover since due to AAP I know the main priorities for today I can quickly adjust my current plans to new and unexpected events. It is the dynamic time management.
- Should I remember exactly how much time I spent for an activity in a day?
- No. AAP forgives and forgets small errors in spent time. No need in special efforts to remember the spent time. The natural precision with which you remember the time spent for an activity during the day at the end of this day or in the morning of the next one is enough.
- What happens with priorities if I did not use AAP for a long time because, for example, long vacations?
- The priorities of all activities will be higher but the order of activities will be the same. If you resume enter spent time regularly, priorities soon will reach normal level due to Oblivion (forgetting) feature of AAP.
- Can you explain in what sense you use such terms as activity, priority and others?
- You can find definitions of these and many other terms in Glossary from AAP help. You may find AAP Help Index also useful.
